The Study

The psychological manipulation of a child by a parent or main carer following separation or divorce, which is intended to disrupt and ultimately sever the child’s attachment bond to their other parent without justification, is one of the worst actions any parent can inflict on a child.
Referred to as ‘parental alienation’, the pattern of repeated aberrant parenting behaviours deployed – which every alienated victim parent throughout the world would instantly recognise – can quickly lead to the outright ‘rejection’ of a safe loving mother, father, grandparents and wider family.
Children who are taught to hate, to dismiss, to be cruel and to be bestowed with empowerment well beyond their level of understanding and cognitive abilities, suffer grievously as a consequence. Adults who were alienated as children testify to this. Their legacy of low self-esteem and perception of unworthiness. Their difficulties trusting others. Drug/alcohol abuse to mask their pain. Their anger at having being deceived. It’s an appalling legacy for any child and yet, shockingly, this urgent child protection issue remains hidden in plain sight.
This report was freely produced after eighteen months of extensive research by a globally awarded social marketing group – Good Egg Safety CIC – driven by fury at the extent to which children and victim parents’ suffering has been obfuscated, distorted and marginalised by vested and ideologically driven groups.
This report and survey findings represents the largest survey into the experiences of victim mothers, fathers and wider family throughout the UK. It reveals a devastating form of family violence where psychological abuse and coercive control is at its heart.
It addresses an issue, as life -time child safety campaigners, we will not remain silent on because silence is complicity.

It is (or should be) commonly accepted that children should have plenty of contact with both (safe) parents - and safe means objectively, not in the fevered imaginings of one parent. Where the parent with care attempts to limit contact, the long term consequences for a child are potentially ruinous. And very avoidable. Our Court system is clearly not up to the job so it is down to parents to get this right. We will look back in years to come and say how did we ever allow this to happen in the very courts that are supposed to protect children via the children act! This survey gives one of the most comprehensive insights into this subject I've ever read. What is an emotive and contested subject is broken down and clearly explained to the reader and using real life examples it gives the stark reality of what this is, child abuse. It provides what the problem is, the markers of how to identify it and solutions in how to combat it. The Study draws on empirical and practitioner literature to provide an overall view of how damaging to children and their families parental alienation is. This mental health issue is largely dealt with in private (or secret) with no guidance on what to do from the social workers who advise courts. Children are left to the opinion of largely untrained professionals: some professionals are untrained but sincere and do what they can with limited resources, some are untrained, without the requisite knowledge, and frankly, insincere, overly recommending that alienated children do not see their separated parents. The mental health damage to such children and families of such primitive thinking is huge. This is a scandal across several countries that has to stop. Well done PAUK.

This is a very well put together comprehensive report that objectively shows the truth and the aftermath of alienation of a parent. To deliberately alienate a child from a parent is sabotage, damaging to both parent and child and is abuse.
