The psychological manipulation of a child by a parent or main carer following separation or divorce, which is intended to disrupt and ultimately sever the child’s attachment bond to their other parent without justification, is one of the worst actions any parent can inflict on a child.
Referred to as ‘parental alienation’, the pattern of repeated aberrant parenting behaviours deployed – which every alienated victim parent throughout the world would instantly recognise – can quickly lead to the outright ‘rejection’ of a safe loving mother, father, grandparents and wider family.
Children who are taught to hate, to dismiss, to be cruel and to be bestowed with empowerment well beyond their level of understanding and cognitive abilities, suffer grievously as a consequence. Adults who were alienated as children testify to this. Their legacy of low self-esteem and perception of unworthiness. Their difficulties trusting others. Drug/alcohol abuse to mask their pain. Their anger at having being deceived. It’s an appalling legacy for any child and yet, shockingly, this urgent child protection issue remains hidden in plain sight.
This report was freely produced after eighteen months of extensive research by a globally awarded social marketing group – Good Egg Safety CIC – driven by fury at the extent to which children and victim parents’ suffering has been obfuscated, distorted and marginalised by vested and ideologically driven groups.
This report and survey findings represents the largest survey into the experiences of victim mothers, fathers and wider family throughout the UK. It reveals a devastating form of family violence where psychological abuse and coercive control is at its heart.
It addresses an issue, as life -time child safety campaigners, we will not remain silent on because silence is complicity.

A must read study for all parents and Family Agencies.
Parental alienation is epidemic across the western world. I have spent 50 years working with all victims of generational family violence and dysfunction and this is the root cause of domestic violence and dysfunction especially where a parent uses their children as Exocet missiles in their war against each other. I am proud to be part of Jan James’s group of experts and of this ground breaking Parental Alienation study on a virulent form of child abuse that robs children of a peaceful loving harmonious childhood.

Outstanding piece of research.
This really is the latest and most important piece of research to date on alienation of children from parents. It is (or should be) commonly accepted that children should have plenty of contact with both (safe) parents - and safe means objectively, not in the fevered imaginings of one parent. Where the parent with care attempts to limit contact, the long term consequences for a child are potentially ruinous. And very avoidable. Our Court system is clearly not up to the job so it is down to parents to get this right. If it is even crossing your mind that you should limit contact or your child's contact with you is being limited, read this. It is so sad but it will give you all the food for thought you need.

Much needed information on this form of child abuse. This is an accessible source of key information on the phenomenon of parental alienation for a general audience. The background is the battle over recognition of parental alienation as a valid phenomenon, yet those who have first hand experience of it are in no doubt. It is an induced psychological pathology in a child which can have life-long implications. Recommended reading for people who doubt about it.
Fantastic study of this insidious form of child abuse and domestic abuse
One of the largest and most comprehensive surveys on this insidious form of child abuse. Some of the graphs are staggering, shocking and heartbreaking at the same time!
We will look back in years to come and say how did we ever allow this to happen in the very courts that are supposed to protect children via the children act!
The website and YouTube channel also has some absolutely heartbreaking interviews with now adult victims of alienation. I couldn't listen to them without stopping to cry.

Every person connected to family law needs to read this
This survey gives one of the most comprehensive insights into this subject I've ever read.
What is an emotive and contested subject is broken down and clearly explained to the reader and using real life examples it gives the stark reality of what this is, child abuse.
It provides what the problem is, the markers of how to identify it and solutions in how to combat it. PA has been around for centuries so I fail to see how the professionals in family law cannot see it.
How anyone can not read this and feel compelled to act is beyond me.
Excellent work, unbiased, balanced, factual, evidence based and honest.

Parental Alienation is a crime against children.
This long researched piece of work demonstrates unequivocally how these behaviors lead to the often permanent severance of a good enough parent.
No one can argue these perverse behaviours exist, and for too long many children have been entrenched and forced to endure a situation not of their choosing. Exploiting a child's mind in order the erase a previously much loved parent to embody feelings of extreme and unjustified emotions in the affected child is a crime of such magnitude, we cannot ignore this any longer. Survivor experiences bear this out as fact, and so now the imperative is to end this cycle of abuse and harm. This study is the most cohesive and comprehensive ever produced. No stone is left unturned and all layers have been peeled beck to reveal the incontrovertible truth.
A timely and hopefully successful campaign
The Study draws on empirical and practitioner literature to provide an overall view of how damaging to children and their families parental alienation is. This mental health issue is largely dealt with in private (or secret) with no guidance on what to do from the social workers who advise courts. Children are left to the opinion of largely untrained professionals: some professionals are untrained but sincere and do what they can with limited resources, some are untrained, without the requisite knowledge, and frankly, insincere, overly recommending that alienated children do not see their separated parents. The mental health damage to such children and families of such primitive thinking is huge. This is a scandal across several countries that has to stop. Well done PAUK.
Valuable study highlighting impacts to families of PA.
This study highlights the impacts of severing a child's relationship with parents. It has had contributions from families in the UK and professionals who work with children experiencing this dysfunctional, damaging family dynamic.
The study brings together key themes and concerns.
Anyone working in child centred services should read it to get insights on improvements that need to be made to reduce opportunities for PA to occur. It damages children's development and causes trauma in children, parents and family members.
It also helps that buying the guide will help add funds to a social media campaign that is urgently needed.
At last a report that shows the truth, to alienate a child from a parent or family member is emotional abuse, and must be acknowledged as such.
The life long damage that is caused is often irreparable.
To remain silent any longer after reading these facts is not an option.
This is the most important study that we have seen for a very long time. It not only covers Parental Alienation but Alienation from the wider family. Jane Jackson Bristol Grandparents Support Group.
A useful report
This looks professional and substantive and seems to be a thorough investigation. It shines rather a bright light on the inadequacy of the recent UK Ministry of Justice report and I like the focus on the behaviour, not the label. It's a great shame for children that this area of law and psychology appears to be vulnerable to hijack by those who put an ideology above the facts before them. I hope this report can be part of the corrective process I think we urgently need. Sarah Phillimore, Barrister Family Law
A must read for insight into parental alienation
This is a very well put together comprehensive report that objectively shows the truth and the aftermath of alienation of a parent. To deliberately alienate a child from a parent is sabotage, damaging to both parent and child and is abuse. The life long damage that is caused can be irreparable and can often lead to suicidal thoughts and depression for the parent who is alienated. This is an invaluable read for this insidious form of Abuse.
This is a must read for anyone who works with, cares for, loves or understands children
This study is impartial, factual and pertinent. As we see, over time, with the understanding of Coercive control, both parents and children are being subjected to this horrific abuse in plain sight. The development of prose literature helps with the understanding of psychological dynamics, this is the key to change. Its a lifeline to those stuck in the Web of pain.
Jurisprudent uptake is tangible.

Parental Alienation is a national scandal hiding in plain sight so this report is very welcome.
