Parental alienation is a form of domestic abuse.

‘Coercive control’ is an act or a pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish, or frighten their victim (Women’s Aid). It is a particularly insidious form of post-separation abuse.

In cases of parental alienation, the offending parent (or other family members) isolates the child not only from their other parent but crucially, from their grandparents and wider family. This action is a major red flag.

One in seven grandparents in the UK are not ‘allowed’ to see their own grandchildren. Some, as we have seen in recent press coverage, have actually been arrested by the police for sending birthday cards or gifts. Arrested for sending LOVE.
